One Must Fall: Battlegrounds has a singleplayer component comprised of several tournaments to participate in. A couple of these are descended from One Must Fall: 2097 tournaments, but most are new. In an homage to 2097's “unranked challengers”, destroying Spike in the fourth round of the North American Open results in him hijacking you into a grudge match. This is the only secret match in the game.

NOTE: These tournaments are not analogous to 2097's tournament mode; there is no creating your own pilot or customizing your HAR. Instead, it's more like 2097's singleplayer mode, except with your choice of campaigns.

Hungry rookies attend hoping to defeat the reigning champion Raven. Due to Raven's mystical ability to avoid defeat, many prestigious opponents avoid this tournament for fear of humiliation.
